NanoHorizons was founded in 2002 by a team of scientists from The Pennsylvania State University as part of the Centre County Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) incubator program. The company's mission was to develop and commercialize nanomaterial-enabled products based upon an extensive intellectual property portfolio. The early work of the company included the development of high performance flexible electronics, and nanomaterial-based sensors and analytical chemistry devices for drug discovery.
Today, NanoHorizons invents, designs, and manufactures advanced nanoscale silver additives that add permanent, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly antimicrobial and performance-enhancing characteristics to consumer, commercial, and industrial products. The company markets its patent-protected and Oeko-Tex® approved antimicrobial solution under the SmartSilver® brand that has worldwide recognition.
NanoHorizons' products are manufactured entirely within the United States. The company's corporate offices, research laboratory, and manufacturing facility are all located in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, near Penn State University’s main campus. NanoHorizons’ scientists and engineers regularly collaborate with renowned organizations, such as the Penn State NanoFabrication Facility and the National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network, to develop innovative nanoparticle solutions that are practical, cost effective, and eco-friendly.
We are committed to applying innovative research to produce new technologies that have practical, beneficial applications and provide value to both manufacturers and consumers. NanoHorizons is the 2009 winner of the Outstanding Technology Company of the Year Award, sponsored by the Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County.
